Funding for Agri-food Data Canada is provided in part by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund
Carly Huitema, Manager of Agri-food Data Strategy at the University of Guelph and a leader within Agri-food Data Canada, has been awarded a Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LFDT) Community Recognition Award in celebration of the Foundation’s tenth anniversary.
The Community Recognition Awards honour individuals and teams whose sustained contributions have helped shape, grow, and strengthen the LF Decentralized Trust ecosystem. In 2025, ten awards were presented to recognize outstanding leadership, technical innovation, and community-building across the global decentralized trust community.
Huitema was recognized for her leadership within Trust over IP (ToIP) and for her work advancing education, outreach, and practical adoption of decentralized trust technologies. She currently serves as Chair of the Trust over IP Steering Committee and has been an active contributor to governance, standards development, and community engagement efforts.
“I am very honoured to have received this award from Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust,” said Huitema. “Being part of Trust over IP within this project has been a fantastic experience. I have learned so much from my colleagues, collaborators, and co-chairs. My most recent work for the community has been the Bite Size Trust video series, which has been a fun and accessible way to share these concepts more broadly.”
The Bite Size Trust videos provide short, approachable explanations of decentralized identity, trust frameworks, and governance concepts, helping to educate new audiences and support the next generation of contributors.
The LFDT Community Recognition Awards celebrate a diverse group of contributors—some who have been involved since the earliest days of the initiative, and others who are newer voices bringing fresh energy and ideas. All awardees share a common commitment to advancing decentralized trust through open collaboration.
